Rocket by Mud : The Video

While looking on the net for a copy of The Wedding Present's "Rocket" cover version, I came across this video of the original. I always loved the Wedding Present version, but can't remember hearing the original ever. Oh well, and it's by Mud (them of the Xmas song fame)...

Shitting a brick...

Most unexpected, yet predictable news I have heard this weekend is that the people behind the awesome Lego Star Wars are going to make Lego Indiana Jones game next year. Yeah! Also, tucked away at the bottom of the article is the announcement of Lego Batman.

Article here: Lego Indiana Jones

Other Lego games they need to do:

Lego James Bond

Lego Lord of the Rings

Lego Matrix

Lego Godfather... :)

DHL are a bunch of incompetent idiots (so are Comcast, Budget and Lowes)

I wait at home all day today for a package from DHL (a large item that needs a signature). The tracking website informs me that the delivery driver took it out at 930am. It rolls around to 5pm and it has not yet arrived. I call DHL Customer Service, am told that they make deliveries up to 8pm and that someone from the local office will call me back to give me an update on when the driver will be here.

At 715pm a lady calls me and says she has just spoke to the driver, he is nearby and will be here before 8pm. At 830pm the package has still not arrived, I call back and am told the local office is now closed and all they can do is have someone call me in the morning.

So, we are getting ready to move, and I have also been tidying up my hard disk. I've come across some interesting things, amongst them this "concept art" I have but a vague recollection of creating.

It appears to be for a film called "Jimmy Demono Destroys the (20th) Century" - I seem to remember just having the title in my mind, and certainly can't remember any sort of plot or idea beyond that.

5 Great British comedians on Youtube

Britain has many successful comedy exports, Monty Python, Benny Hill... and some other ones. But here are some of the less famous British (and one Irish) comedy geniuses, brought to you by the power of YouTube:

Ed Byrne

Adam Bloom, Part One:

Films that sneak up on you...

Some films we hear about years in advance, others I don't seem to find out about until they are nearly upon us. Maybe I've been out of the loop, but Danny Boyle (director of Trainspotting and 28 Days Later) has directed a sci-fi film that's due in the next couple of months. It's called Sunshine and here's the trailer.

Looks alright. The plot is a bit Armageddon-ish, but the trailer makes it look a bit more of a space thriller like Event Horizon or Solaris than a fullblown action film. I'll go see it though, not enough sci-fi gets released anymore...

Buying a house

The most stressful things I have ever done are: Proposing to my wife, Getting married, Buying a house.

I had so many people tell me it was going to be so stressful and horrible, and I was like "oh, I can imagine". Well, you can't. It's the second worst process I've ever gone through (the worst thing is something I can't talk about on a public blog). From putting together offers (and having to sign/resign and fax back and forth), applying for a mortgage (and having to fax them evidence etc) and home inspections and blah blah blah. It's just really painful and was complicated by the fact that I flew off on vacation the minute we had our offer accepted, leaving my wife holding the reins. During the peak busy period at her work.

Tivo - Great gadget or greatest gadget?

In celebration of getting a promotion at work, I decided to splurge and get a Tivo. We have been thinking about getting one for ages, as once we are done with work and dinner, we normally only have from like 8-10 to watch TV and if nothing's on during that time we end up watching crap that we never wanted to. If this is you, get Tivo now.

Seriously, I've only had it a week and I love it. Being able to watch movies that were on at 1am the night before whenever you want, or watch the episode of the Simpsons that was on while I was driving home etc, without even having to do much programming on it. Basically you set shows that you want it to record regularly, and you can rate shows that are on by hitting a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" button, and it is pretty smart once you tell it the shows you like - a bit like Amazon's suggestions, recording things automatically based on what I have already recorded.

I surrender.

OK, I give up. The spammers have won for now, and I am blocking all comments unless from a registered user. I tried a spam filter and it didn't work, I tried having unregistered users comments be moderated, but today I have 62 pages of comments to sift through... so until I can come up with a better method, you will have to register to leave comments I'm afraid.

Bastards.

EDIT: Maybe I will win in the end, I have found a better anti-spam module for Drupal and will see how good it is - but for now, comments will remain off limits
